Vision
The vision for the First Nations Injury Prevention and Control Planning Committee, sub-section of the Tripartite Strategy Council for Primary Care & Public Health cluster, can be summarized as follows:
The Injury Prevention and Control Planning Committee will identify and/or develop and support strategic methodologies which allow for the greatest degree of systemic change and improvement in injury prevention and promotion for and with BC First Nations communities. The Planning Committee is to work with BC First Nations and the government agencies to identify First Nations initiatives in injury prevention and control that are collaborative in nature and well aligned with federal and provincial approaches and strategies, and which address the specific TCA:FNHP health action items which form the underlying focus of this Committee.
A key function of the Planning Committee shall align wherever possible with current Federal, Provincial, municipal and other related health governments planning processes to create strategic direction to set key policies to meet Tripartite First Nations Health Plan, Transformative Change Accord, and Framework Agreement objectives, as well as the 7 Directives from BC First Nations leadership:
1) Community-driven, Nation-based approach,
2) Increase First Nations decision-making and control
3) Improved services
4) Foster meaningful collaboration and partnership with stakeholders and BC First Nations
5) Ensure human and economic capacity with BC First Nations
6) Be without prejudice to First Nations interests
7) Function at a high operational standard
Key Stakeholders for Injury Prevention and Control Planning Committee
Funders/Planners/Policymakers:
- First Nations and Inuit Health Branch, British Columbia Region, Health Canada [to be transferred to a BC First Nations Health Authority between 2012 - 2015] and Ottawa
- Ministry of Health, Government of British Columbia (Aboriginal Health Branch, Injury Prevention & Promotion Branch & Emergency Planning Branch) and their partners [e.g. BCAA, Child Health BC, Red Cross, BC Superintendant of Motor Vehicles for BC Road Safety Plan)
- Health Authority - Health Promotion/injury prevention leads and Health Authority Aboriginal Leads (both informed via MoH*)
interim First Nations Health Authority:
- Health Actions Team and designated senior lead (and Injury Prevention project staff where hired)
- First Nations Community Engagement team where required to support First Nations engagement
- Secretariats: First Nations Health Council and First Nations Health Directors Association#
- First Nations Emergency Services Society (FNESS) - for first responders linkage

*Relevant Health Authority input and engagement will be affected through the Province who shall identify key personnel from Health Authorities and facilitate their relevant involvement/participation in the Committee and/or associated Working/Planning groups.
# The First Nations Health Authority, working with the First Nations Health Directors Association and First Nations Health Council, shall facilitate and support First Nations representative voice in the work.
