Initiatives

The Tripartite First Nations Health Plan contains 29 action items to be completed over 10 years. The Health Council is addressing these action items through the following initiative areas:

Community Health encompasses holistic and preventative approaches to common health issues within our communities.

Mental Wellness is the balance between the social, physical, spiritual and emotional life of a First Nation’s person.

e-Health refers to a set of integrated technologies that are health specific, these include health data storage and tracking, remote wound care, and telepsychiatry among others.

Research & Data give us a clear picture of health status, as individuals communities and familes. The Health Council is working to address the gaps between the quanity of research being conducted and the quality of the results being reported, through data sharing agreements and the Regional Health Survey.

Building Health Professions First Nations health professionals are in high demand and are currently under-represented in nearly all health fields. Explore the Health Council’s approach to supporting individuals considering a health profession.

Maternal & Child Health The Maternal and Child Health initiative strives to bring First Nations births"“closer to home and back into the hands of women,” to make vision, hearing, and dental screening for children universal, and to reduce the numbers of early and accidental deaths among children.

Health Advocacy Health Advocates serve as first point of contact for communities, organizations, and individuals requesting support and advocacy on Non- Insured Health Benefits and Medical Services Plan issues
